Social Responsibility / Community Development
Community DevelopmentMany companies world-wide have incorporated a new vision in their management policies in order to further not only a better quality of life for their workers and their families but also better conditions for the social group as a whole. Doe Run Peru applies this model of social responsibility operating with “public consent” and practicing a “good neighbor” policy with the sole purpose of participating in the sustainable development of the surrounding communities. Consequently, the company´s activities are oriented to strengthening the capacities and developing the potential of the people belonging to the communities. Sustainable development efforts by Doe Run Peru rest upon two main foundations: The first is working in strengthening capacities empowering communities to take leadership in their own development. This in turns takes us to the second foundation which comes when communities identify existing opportunities and promote their own projects. During this process, Doe Run Peru supports the community to attain its goals and is an active stakeholder in project performance. We believe it takes a community approach to create sustainable opportunities. For Doe Run Peru a sound social responsibility policy is co-responsibility. Shared responsibility of which various parties such as the State and the members of the social group are a part. A joint effort made by all those involved generates integral dynamic sustainable development to guarantee a better quality of life for the surrounding communities. Doe Run Peru is also working tirelessly to generate efficient production chains in animal breeding. Cattle improvement projects, training opportunities and introducing improved gene pools are some of the ongoing projects. Health is another concern where important programs are being developed. Hygiene education and healthier nutritional habits are fostered through various community projects. |
